Our most popular Christmas markets are Aachen and Köln but we also offer trips to Koblenz, Bonn, Cochem, Trier, Rüdesheim and many more destinations. If you need more time to explore the Christmas markets, why not take a Short Break instead. Many of our short break accommodation centres are perfectly located to explore some of the most interesting Christmas markets.

TYPICAL ITINERARY FOR YOUR EXTENDED DAY TRIP

Travel by 49 seater executive coach with reclining seats, seat-belts, DVD player and toilet.

Day 1: Evening - Executive coach collects your group and drives to Folkestone/Dover.
Day 2: Early morning - Channel crossing by shuttle or ferry. Mid morning - Arrival at Aachen or Köln
Approximately 10 hours free time to enjoy the Christmas Markets. Evening - Coach departs
Day 3: Early morning - return Channel crossing. Mid/late morning – arrive back at your destination.

Enjoy the Christmas celebrations in the historic heart of Aachen. The festive array of stalls around the Cathedral, Town Hall and Old Town offer an impressive range of crafts and gifts.

Capture the sights, sounds and aroma of Christmas as you wander through the brightly illuminated stands adorned with a range of attractive Christmas decorations. The local speciality you must try is Aachen Printen, a type of tasty gingerbread which is unique to Aachen. Your coach will drop you off and collect you from the Bendplatz parking area from which you can walk to the well-signposted Christmas market in about 20 minutes.

Aachen’s historic old town is perfect to stroll around. You will be led though narrow lanes and historic squares and be inspired by Aachen’s history of nearly 2000 years. Get to know the various facets of Aachen: the modern city, beautiful old town houses, old and new fountains and numerous anecdotes surrounding the Cathedral, Town Hall and Old Town.

Delight in the magical atmosphere of the Christmas markets of Köln. Your coach will drop you off and collect you from Komodienstrasse near to the Cathedral, within easy walking distance to many of the main markets.

Christmas market at Köln Cathedral: The Cathedral Christmas market attracts visitors with 160 attractively designed wooden booths. Beneath the largest Christmas tree in the Rhineland, you can choose from numerous sweet delicacies, watch artisans at work and enjoy the “original Christmas mulled wine” out of the festively decorated Chistmas mugs.

Köln

Christmas market, Old Town, “Home of the Heinzel”: You will find this special and extraordinary Christmas market on the Alter Markt in front of Köln’s town hall and on the Heumarkt. According to an old Köln legend, the elves were particularly skilful and diligent craftsmen. Therefore, this market offers an abundance of handicraft stalls where the products are still traditionally made.

Angels’ market - Christmas at Neumarkt: The oldest Christmas market of Köln at the Neumarkt will be designed as a Market of Angels. A splendid angels’ gate can be seen at the central city square in the shopping quarter. The attractive stalls with figures of angels, Christmassy lights and objects of art provide an enchanting atmosphere.

Fairytale Christmas market at Rudolfplatz: This Christmas market takes you to the world of fairy tales. Against the historic backdrop of the medieval Hahnentorburg, large fairy-tale figures and festive illuminations will delight you.

The NEW Köln Harbour Christmas Market at the Chocolate Museum: Modern and elegant, the new maritime Christmas Market is situated directly on the Rhine with about 80 stalls in white pagoda tents with roof-peaks appearing like ship sails. High quality products, dishes and drinks from all over the world are on offer. Open: Monday-Thursday 1200-2100 hrs; Friday-Sunday 1100-2200 hrs from 25th November to 23rd December. Free entrance.

Take a journey through the centuries and explore the area around the Cathedral, town hall and historic old town. See the Romanesque church of Gross St. Martin, the Roman Dionysos Mosaic and the Jewish Ritual Bath. In the narrow, cobble-stoned alleys of the old town and on the busy squares, you will get a feeling for life in the cathedral city, yesterday and today.

Two-hour Advent Boat Cruise on board MS RheinFantasie.
Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 1530 hrs from 25th November to 18th December.

See, feel and taste chocolate at the unique Chocolate Museum.

Experience a floating Christmas Market with gifts and handicrafts from all over the world on board “MS Wappen von Köln”.
Open daily: 1100-2100 hrs (Sunday-Thursday) and 1100-2200 hrs (Friday-Saturday) from 24th November to 21st December.

Visit the Deutsches Sport & Olympia Museum for an insight into the history and ever-changing face of sport.
